________________________________________________________________________________ John and I took a 3 day/2 night cruise side trip on the Yangtze River. It is known as the 3 GORGES and it is pretty well known to domestic and international tourist for its surrounding mountains and cliffs. The room was not the nicest- it was a a but slanted and the shower water was weak and cold. Still, there was a huge window right behind our beds in the room that we could see all the mountains through at all hours. Both nights that we were on the ship there were awesome lightning storms without any rain so you could stand outside and watch. One moment all you could see was stars and the moonlight and the next you could see all the mountains to the sides and ahead of you. Once going further upstream and porting we switched to a mid-sized boat with a metal retractable roof to see above. We took and ton of pictures and even saw a wild monkey interested in the passing boat. We then switched to a smaller wooden thatched boat where the water was clear and clean enough to drink. The boatsmen let us take pictures with his hat on which was pretty funny. We woke up early the last morning to take trip to the massive 3 Gorges Dam which will be the worlds largest dam, destroying the US's Hoover Dam. It will have the power of almost 18 nuclear power stations when all the generators are in place. In the forth dam picture you can see tiny construction workers walking below white light posts to put the structure into perspective. It is over a mile long and has a 5 stage lock system to allow ships to pass. _________________________________________________________________________ |
